This book was very good. How do I talk about it without giving too much away? Yes, at times predictable, but nonetheless very, very well executed. I enjoyed this book so much.

I loved Ellie and Henry and the entire premise was both super interesting and horribly sad. It also preyed on some of my own most visceral fears and makes me wonder if I might end up at the dive bar someday. It’s depressing, but it’s also heartening at the same time. Contradictory? Absolutely. Not because it’s confusing, but becaise it dragged a lot of the hidden boxes in my brain to the forefront and unpacked them into a big old pile in the middle of the floor and forced me to sort them.

The biggest theme here is that the universe isn’t always fair–and who makes the rules? It explores the cruelty of fate and unintentionally brings to mind the ethics of time travel (when you read it, come back and tell me that that’s not what you thought of).

Bottom line, I read this in basically one night. I started and couldn’t stop. I had a one sided debate with spouse over the plot and all my theories on where it was going. I was happily right and happily wrong. Put it on your TBR. Buy it immediately. It’ll make you wonder which one of your fears will be chasing you through the woods.

A forested road at night, slick from the pounding rain and eerily illuminated by flashes of lightning. Just before midnight, a car swerves to avoid something—or someone—mysteriously standing in the road, only to slam into a fallen tree instead. In the pitch black, four more cars follow in a pileup no one can seem to avoid.

Stumbling out of the wreckage, soaked from the rain and nursing various injuries, five strangers find themselves in a backwoods dive bar, waiting for daybreak and hoping for cell service. But as tensions rise and the storm rages on outside, the occupants of the dive bar start to notice that not everything is as it seems. Time is moving differently, and they quickly learn that going outside—whether to assist another accident victim or to hike for help—is a very bad idea.
